이 책은 한글 맞춤법을 설명만 하지는 않는다. 문제가 되는 상황을 제기하고 그것을 어떻게 바로잡는 게 좋은가를 설명하는 데 초점을 맞추었다. ‘교사를 위한다’는 명분에 맞게 교육에 필요한 문제의 예를 충분히 제시하고 그 상황에 맞는 설명력을 기르는 데 주안점을 두었다. 이번 개정판에서는 ‘깨치다, 깨우치다’, ‘주년, 주기’ 따위의 오류를 확인하여 실었다. 더 나가서 “선생님께서는 수업을 하시고 식사를 하셨습니다.” 따위의 어법의 오류 문제도 다뤘다.
