이 책에서는 5급(기술) 국가 공무원 공채 제2차 시험(2002~2019년도)에 출제된 문제를 중심으로 하여 다양한 열역학 문제들을 소개하고 풀이 과정을 기술하였다. 5급 임용 시험에 출제된 문제들은 어려운 문제들이 많은데, 이 문제들 중에 열역학적 개념을 익히는 데 도움이 되는 좋은 문제들이 많이 보여서 이 책을 만들게 되었다. 좋은 문제는 개념을 이해하게 하고 문제해결 능력을 향상시켜주는 법이다. 어려운 문제들이 많지만 기초 개념 파악을 목적으로 기본적인 문제들도 함께 수록하였고, 모든 문제에 대한 풀이 과정을 상세히 기술하였다.
