음악 수업에서 무엇을 어떻게 가르쳐야 하는 것인지 실제적인 것들을 다루면서 구체적인 수업 실연 활동을 할 수 있도록 이끄는 교재가 필요하였다. 최대한 음악 수업의 실제적 상황을 고려하고 실습에 중점을 두어 목차를 설계하였는데, Ⅱ장에서는 무엇을 가르쳐야 하는지, 음악 제재를 분석하여 학습목표를 설정해 보는 실습을 다루었고, Ⅲ장에서는 설정된 학습목표를 기반으로 교수ㆍ학습을 설계하고 지도안을 작성하는 방법과 지도안에 맞추어 수업을 실연하는 방법 등 구체적인 실습을 다루었다.
