이 책은 좋은 체육수업으로 학생들 앞에 당당히 서기 위해 고민하고 노력을 멈추지 않는 체육교사들을 위해 썼다. 주로 학교 현장에서 근무하는 체육교사들이 이 책의 주된 독자가 되겠지만, 체육교사를 꿈꾸는 예비 체육교사들도 이 책을 읽기 바란다. 나의 경험에 비춰봤을 때, 아직까지 현장의 체육수업은 대학에서 학문적으로 배우는 체육수업과 큰 차이를 보이고 있다. 그런 점에서 이 책은 이들이 체육교사가 되었을 때 전인교육으로서의 체육수업을 실천하는 데 있어서 시행착오를 줄이고 학교 현장에 빠르게 적응할 수 있도록 도움을 줄 뿐 아니라, 체육교사로서 체육수업을 바라보는 시각을 넓히고 안목을 높이는 데에도 도움이 될 것이다.
