이 책의 구성은 교육실습 준비에서부터 마무리까지의 과정에 따라 I부, II부, III부 및 부록으로 되어 있다. 제I부는 교육실습의 기본 개념을 다루는 「교육실습 입문」으로 교육실습에 관한 기초적인 소개, 교육실습생과 기관의 역할, 교육실습의 흐름, 실습학교에 대한 이해, 교육봉사활동에 관한 내용이 포함되어 있다. 특히 교육봉사활동에 대한 내용은 교육실습과 다름에도 불구하고 학교현장에서 이루어진다는 점에서 추가하여 제시하였다.
제II부는 교육실습 영역에서 가장 중요한 「교과지도 실습」으로 수업 관찰 및 참가실습, 교재 연구 및 학습지도안 작성, 교수방법별 수업 전략, 수업연구의 준비와 실제에 대하여 다루었다. 이처럼 교과지도 실습 내용을 세부적으로 상세하게 다루는 것은 교원임용시험에서 큰 비중을 차지하고 있기 때문이며, 교육실습을 통해 충분히 경험할 수 있도록 하기 위함이다. 따라서 책에서 제시하는 내용을 교육실습기간에 충실히 수행하면 동시에 임용고사 수업실연 준비에도 큰 도움이 될 것이다.
제III부는 「교직실무실습 및 평가」로 교사로서의 실무에 해당하는 학교경영, 학급경영, 생활지도, 진로지도, 창의적 체험활동지도, 실험ㆍ실습시설 관리와 교육실습에 대한 평가로 지도교사에 의한 평가, 대학 교수에 의한 평가, 대학-학교 협의 평가를 다루는 내용으로 구성되어 있다.
부록에는 교육실습을 하는 과정이나 사후에 스스로를 돌아볼 수 있는 체크리스트, 주요 교수방법별 연구수업을 위한 교수학습 지도안 예시 등이 제시되어 있다. 또한, 교육실습생들이 실제로 활용할 수 있는 교육실습일지인 「교육실습 포트폴리오」도 포함되어 있다.
